The Art and Design of Pac-Man

The Art and Design of Pac-Man

Speaker/Panel:  Tim Lapetino

Pac-Man revolutionized arcade games in 1980, spawning a cultural and merchandising empire. The simple dot-munching character began with a handful of pixels, but has grown and evolved with the times, while still remaining undiluted as an object of design. Pac-Man's visual aspects have transmuted, stretched, and been remixed into other properties while still retaining an elemental nature. Writer and graphic designer Tim Lapetino, author of Art of Atari, will walk through the visual history of Pac-Man on and off-screen, diving into how the character has become deeply enmeshed in popular culture: from television, to merchandising, to medicine and politics.
